"There is nothing as beautiful to man as a child. Their charm is neither imposing nor does it inspire fear. It is both sweet and tender, an spontaneous kind of charm which inspires confidence".

    I. INTRODUCTION

EL NIÑO FELIZ is not just another house where abused, abandoned or orphan children are taken in and where they are expected to follow a set of rules which would restrict their normal behaviour.

In 1990, Father Jose Luis Estalayo founded this institution with a very clear goal: that those children who arrive at their new home receive the love that they've lost, live in a balanced environment full of warmth and affection and enjoy live; that they show enthusiasm and enjoy the security of a home in order to provide them with the necessary background to so that they can establish constructive relationships with other people in the future, succeed academically and in their careers, become productive and have the ability to adapt to changes.
    In a few words:

    That they are happy

The Home currently shelters 33 children, aged between three and eighteen, and is located in the city of San Joaquin Texcoco, Estado de Mexico.

In order to achieve a real family environment for the children where they can find understanding, attention and motherly affection, the Home has the support of voluntary nuns from the Order of "Esclavas de la Inmaculada Niña (Divina Infantita)" who along with Father Jose Luis take personal care for each child.

    II. GOALS OF THE INSTITUTION

Nobody can give what they don't have or teach what they he did not learn. A child who didn't receive affection in his childhood will hardly be able to give it when he grows up.

EL NIÑO FELIZ has had four specific objectives from its beginnings in order to help children develop in harmony:

      A. SELF CONFIDENCE.

The child who has the necessary abilities will be able to face any problem and overcome life's difficulties. In this Home, through individual attention, we will discover and stimulate their talents. The child who succeeds in an activity increases his self-esteem and will be able to solve problems.

      B. RESPECT.

Our intention is to develop in the child, from the moment of his arrival to our Home, a consciousness of respect towards the law, others' rights and the truth. Guided by this concept, he will discover other virtues such as honour, loyalty and courage, which will help him in his future development.

      C. CREATIVITY.

A creative child creates new things. We encourage our children to make questions, to investigate, to use their imagination, to be immune to scorn and ridicule, and to enquire about the truth and live religion.

In order to stimulate creativity, we respect their preferences and original ideas. We also accept it they fail so that they are not put off trying new ideas. We create a democratic atmosphere where discipline is within reasonable levels, where they can find encouraging contacts, satisfying encounters and a climate of love.

      D. TO ILLUMINATE THEIR LIVES FROM A CHRISTIAN POINT OF VIEW.

To give them a solid religious faith so that they can constructively adapt themselves to every situation. "If God is the powerful pilot who controls the plane I'm in, if He loves me, He drives me, and I trust Him, there is no reason not to be happy!".

The child must realise that after difficult times better ones will come, and that this problem has a solution for those who believe that God loves his creatures and is always willing to assist them and protect.

The institution is asking for contributions in order to cover the total maintenance costs of the children as well as the building new housing to improve their quality of life. We are authorised by the Secretary of Public Finances to receive contributions deductible from income tax.

    IV. ORGANIZATION

The institution has a board of trustees constituted by people who offer their voluntary services and is organised in five commissions:

    • Advisory,
      Communications,
      Finance,
      Legal and Works,
      Health
